About the event
*YOU MUST HAVE A BURRO BORROWED/OWNED/RESERVED PRIOR TO REGISTRATION* We are excited to announce this Magdalena Burro Stampede. The village of Magdalena is nestled of the north side of the Magdalena mountains and is next to the historic mining community of Kelly.
We will all take off in a mass start from Main Street!. This Pack Burro Race will have a short 3 mile and long 9 mile courses (mileage is approximate). The three mile short course will be a gentle loop along a gravel road, then about a mile of two track dirt, and end with gravel and pavement back into town. It is a perfect easy loop for anyone who wants to run, walk, or hike a the race, especially if it your first one! The nine mile long course will follow the same gravel mile out of town, then hit a challenging beautiful arroyo of sand, a two track of dirt for a couple miles, and then county gravel road back into town. The nine mile course will have sweeping views of the Magdalena mountains and the mining areas around the village.
The start time is 9:00AM sharp with a pre-race meeting at 8:15AM. We will only be able to close main street for a short time, so there will be a designated staging area just off main. Prepare for it to be warm.
Overnight camping and trailer parking is available at the rodeo grounds. There are bathrooms and water available. No power hookups.
Rules will follow the Western Pack Burro Association Race Rules. You may not ride your burro and burros/donkeys are only allowed to compete. Pack Saddles, gold pan, pick, and shovel are only required for the long course, but may be required for the short course for those want finish/top placement prizes.
